Silver carp are a nonnative, invasive species that apparently have not survived in the area since the Mississippi River reached its summer low in June. Studies are under way to determine if the silver carp, cut off from the river, could not live in the increasing salt content of the water, if they relocated into other waters. The Mississippi River is at its lowest level in more than 10 years.
