LSU women’s golfers tied for 12th at regional

PALO ALTO, CALIF. — LSU’s Madelene Sagstrom overcame a double bogey on her ninth hole of the day to finish with a 1-under 70 to pace LSU on the first day of the NCAA West Regional tournament at the Stanford University Golf Course.

Sagstrom is tied for fifth in the individual standings, three shots off the lead of Annie Park of Southern California at 4-under 67. Emilie Burger of Georgia is second at 3-under 68, and Cassie Isagawa of Oregon and Regan De Guzman are tied for third at 2-under 68. LSU posted a 17-over round of 301, four shots out of the eighth and final qualifying spot for the NCAA Women’s Championships held by California at 13-over par 297.

The top 12 seeds will play in Friday’s afternoon wave, which will not begin until 2 p.m.

LSU is in a four-way tie for 12th place with host Stanford, Ohio State and San Jose State. Vanderbilt (+5), Southern Cal (+6), Purdue (+7) and Oregon (+8) were the only teams to shoot under double digits over par and have the first four spots entering the second round.
