LSU women’s basketball team to play tournament in Brooklyn

The LSU women’s basketball team was selected to play in the inaugural Barclays Women’s Invitational, Nov. 29-30 at the Barclays Center in the Brooklyn section of New York.

The Lady Tigers will join Michigan, Rutgers and Texas Tech in the two-day event Thanksgiving weekend.

Matchups and game times will be announced later. The remainder of LSU’s 2013-14 schedule will be announced in August.

“This is a great opportunity with tremendous exposure for our program,” LSU coach Nikki Caldwell said according to a university news release. “Playing elite teams from power conferences during the non-conference portion of our schedule is something we always like to do. To be able to do that in New York in a venue like the Barclays Center is very exciting for our team and fans.”

This will be LSU’s first game in New York since a win over St. John’s in the 1996-97 season.

The Lady Tigers were recently ranked No. 16 in an early 2013-14 preseason poll by ESPN.com.
