Advocate news services May 13, 2013 Comments The LSU women’s basketball team was selected to play in the inaugural Barclays Women’s Invitational, Nov. 29-30 at the Barclays Center in the Brooklyn section of New York. The Lady Tigers will join Michigan, Rutgers and Texas Tech in the two-day event Thanksgiving weekend. Matchups and game times will be announced later. The remainder of LSU’s 2013-14 schedule will be announced in August. “This is a great opportunity with tremendous exposure for our program,” LSU coach Nikki Caldwell said according to a university news release. “Playing elite teams from power conferences during the non-conference portion of our schedule is something we always like to do. To be able to do that in New York in a venue like the Barclays Center is very exciting for our team and fans.” This will be LSU’s first game in New York since a win over St. John’s in the 1996-97 season. The Lady Tigers were recently ranked No. 16 in an early 2013-14 preseason poll by ESPN.com. Men’s golf LSU TO BE NO. 3 seed in Regional: No. 17 LSU learned Monday night it will compete as a No. 3 seed in NCAA regional play when the Tigers host 12 teams in the Baton Rouge Regional on May 16-18 at the University Club. The field includes No. 1 seed Alabama, No. 2 Florida, No. 4 Mississippi State, No. 5 Houston, No. 6 Northwestern, No. 7 Tennessee, No. 8 South Alabama, No. 9 Coastal Carolina, No. 10 UAB, No. 11 Wichita State, No. 12 Southeastern Louisiana and No. 13 Houston Baptist. Women’s golf Sagstrom earns All-SEC honors: LSU sophomore Madelene Sagstrom was named to the first team All-SEC women’s golf team, announced Monday. With eight career top 10-finishes in two seasons, Sagstrom has the seventh best stroke average in the SEC at 73.42. She is ranked 31st in the nation in the GolfWeek/Sagarin performance rankings and has posted the four lowest rounds of the season for LSU. Sagstrom is the 23rd Lady Tiger to earn All-SEC women’s golf honors. The Enkoping, Sweden, native was named to the All-SEC Freshman team last season and was the only LSU player nominated this year. The Lady Tigers leave Tuesday after finishing final exams for the NCAA West Regional, Thursday through Saturday in Stanford, Calif. The top eight teams advance to the NCAA Championship, May 21-24 in Athens, Ga.
