Men’s tennis team posts 4-1 win

The No. 20 LSU men’s tennis team came away with a 4-1 victory over No. 54 Arkansas (15-15, 0-12 SEC) Saturday afternoon at W.T. “Dub” Robinson Stadium in the first match of a doubleheader.

In the second match, the Tigers blanked Jackson State 4-0.

The Tigers (15-10, 5-7 Southeastern Conference) took control early, cruising to a victory in doubles. On court two, LSU’s duo of Roger Anderson and Olivier Borsos defeated Arkansas’ Mike Nott and Victor Hoang 8-3.

LSU’s pair of Chris Simpson and senior Stefan Szacinski defeated Arkansas’ Mike Ward and Gregorie Lehmann 8-5 loss to give LSU a 1-0 lead. The doubles match between LSU’s Boris Arias and Tam Trinh and Arkansas’ Hall Fess and Santiago Munoz was left unfinished with the Tigers leading 7-6.

The Tigers extended their lead to 2-0 behind a 6-3, 6-1 victory by Borsos over Arkansas’ Munoz. LSU’s Trinh pushed the Tigers’ lead to 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Arkansas’ Hoang on court five.

The Razorbacks (15-15, 0-12) earned their only point with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 win by Jovan Parlic over LSU’s Harrison Kennedy.

The Tigers clinched the match as Mark Bowtell earned a a 7-6(3), 6-3 victory over Ward.

LSU’s No. 51 Simpson was leading Lehmann 6-3, 4-6, 3-2. On court two, LSU’s No. 104 Szacinski and Arkansas’ Nott were tied 6-3, 6-7(4).

Women’s tennis

LADY TIGERS FALL TO ARKANSAS: In Fayetteville, Ark., LSU women’s tennis team (8-15; 1-12 SEC) concluded the regular season with a 6-1 loss to Arkansas (12-14; 4-9 SEC) Saturday.

“It was a good battle,” coach Julia S. Sell said. “Arkansas is a very good team. The girls continue to compete and give 100 percent. We’ve had a lot of tough matches and taken some tough losses. We’re still battling. We haven’t played our best tennis yet. We’re working to build some momentum into the SEC tournament and get some wins there.”

The Razorbacks kicked off the day with two wins in doubles, as the pair of Ariel Morton and Mary Jeremiah fell 8-1 to Arkansas’ Brittany Huxley and Yang Pang in the top spot, before the Kaitlin Burns and Ella Taylor lost 8-2 to Razorbacks’ Kimberley-Ann Surin and Ana Lorena Belmar Hernandez.

Arkansas carried its success into singles, as Claudine Paulson marked a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Taylor. Frankenberger followed with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over’ Hernandez, LSU’s lone point of the day.

A series of Razorback victories wrapped up the day’s competition. Arkansas’ Surin defeated Morton, 6-1, 6-2, while Ebie Wilson lost 6-2, 6-2.
