The LSU track and field teams will have one final tune-up before the start of the indoor championship season when they return home Friday to host the LSU Twilight meet in the Carl Maddox Field House.
The meet will begin at 12:30 p.m. with the field events, while the track events will get under way at 5:15 p.m.
Friday’s competition will be LSU’s home indoor opener as the top-ranked Lady Tigers and No. 14 Tigers have been on the road for the first five weeks of the season while competing against many of the nation’s top programs.
Many of coach Dennis Shaver’s athletes will be making their final preps for the Southeastern Conference Indoor Championships to be held Feb. 22-24 and the NCAA Indoor Championships, set for March 8-9.
On Friday, LSU will welcome Mississippi State, whose men have been as high as 12th and women are currently 25th in the USTFCCCA power rankings, to the Field House for a little SEC preview.
Other combined programs scheduled to compete Friday include Louisiana-Lafayette, Southeastern, Arkansas Baptist, Louisiana-Monroe, Loyola, McNeese State, Northwestern State and Hinds Community College.
Also expected for the meet are the Southern and UNO men and the Tulane and Nicholls State women.
NO. 25 TIGERS UPEND NO. 56 RICE: The No. 25 LSU men’s tennis team (4-1) bested No. 56 Rice (2-5) 4-3 on Thursday.
The Tigers won the doubles point early and then were victorious in three of the six singles matches.
