LSU recruiting class, at a glance

Addressing the needs: LSU went heaviest on the defensive line, where it lost six of its top nine from 2012, and at wide receiver in an effort to bolster the offense. The only need that went wanting is at safety, where commitment Jeremy Cutrer is likely junior college bound.

WHERE THEY STAND: The Tigers signed all their committed players except for Cutrer and Tevin Lawson and made a signing-day splash with Bower. Safety Priest Willis is still unsigned in Arizona, but is unlikely to budge from his UCLA commitment. Otherwise, LSU is done for 2013.

Lagniappe: LSU signed players from 10 different states, but unusually, none from Texas or Mississippi. ... Jefferson is the younger brother of Jordan Jefferson; Malone is the son of Karl Malone; Johnson is the younger brother of Patrick Peterson; and Beckwith is the cousin of Darry Beckwith. ... White (Morris Claiborne’s cousin) has a 4.3 GPA and is on pace to be Green Oaks’ valedictorian.

Coach miles says: “It’s a highly ranked class that has character and integrity, people who want to compete for championships. It’s as strong a class as we’ve signed, the style of class that will put us in great position moving forward.”
