Swimmer Michael Young earns SEC honor Swimmer Michael Young earns SEC honor Advocate news services Nov. 11, 2012 Comments LSU sophomore swimmer Michael Young has been named the Southeastern Conference Male Swimmer of the Week for the his performance in the 22nd ranked Tigers 196-104 victory over 20th ranked Alabama on Friday at the LSU Natatorium. Young helped set the tone of the meet as he paced the first-place 400-yard medley relay team (3:18.18) with a lead off split of 49.83. He also won the 100 backstroke (49.65) and 200 backstroke (1:48.53) to put himself in position to post NCAA provisional marks before the championship season. “Michael was a key component to the start of the meet, and obviously his individual wins speak for themselves,” swimming coach Dave Geyer said. “It is always an honor when the conference recognizes our athletes’ efforts.” Soccer KINNEMAN NAMED TO SEC COMMUNITY SERVICE TEAM: Junior goalkeeper Megan Kinneman was selected for the SEC Community Service Team for women’s soccer Tuesday. Kinneman’s community service over the past year made her one of 14 representatives on this year’s squad announced by the conference office. Kinneman is an active member in community service projects as Habitat for Humanity, Kids Hope and the Special Olympics. As part of the Kids Hope program, she joined the Soccer team in adopting a local school for the year and serving as a mentor to one of the students while spending time each week playing games and assisting with their school work. At the Halloween BOOzar, she joined the soccer team in dressing up in Halloween costumes and creating activity stations for more than 500 local children.
