NASHVILLE, Tenn. — LSU senior Laura Carleton finished 12th at the Southeastern Conference, leading the Lady Tigers to a seventh-place finish on Friday at Vanderbilt University.
Carleton finished the six-kilometer race in a time of 21 minutes, 2.22 seconds. She was followed by LSU junior Natoya Coule (24th, 21:24.46) and senior Charlene Lipsey (40th, 21:39.25).
“We are a little disappointed with the team finish for the girls,” LSU coach Mark Elliott said. “Although the team finish was not what we wanted, I am not disappointed in the individual performances and effort.”
Carleton was also named to the All-SEC second team after the meet.
On the men’s side, the Tigers finished 13th with 378 points.
Senior runner Roger Cooke ran a personal best to lead the Tigers, placing 69th out of 117 runners.
“On the men’s side, we have some young guys,” Elliott said. “We just didn’t have a strong enough team to challenge the middle of the pack. Again, I was pleased with the effort overall.”
LSU will next compete in the NCAA South Central Regional meet on Nov. 9 in Fayetteville, Ark.

McNeese senior David Rooney set a Southland Championship 8,000-meter record by 21 seconds en route to his individual title, while Stephen F. Austin senior Lauren Smith notched consecutive individual titles with a 7.5-second victory.
The McNeese men scored 25 points, the lowest since 1982. Lamar finished second with 66 points, while Stephen F. Austin finished third with 80 points. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi placed fourth (90) and Central Arkansas (130) fifth.
Rooney finished the 8-kilometer race in a record-setting time of 23:33 seconds to break the Southland record of 23:54 set in 2009 by Lamar’s Francis Kasagule.
“First of all, this was a great team effort,” said Rooney. “Everyone worked so hard for this and we all ran very well. Personally, I’m excited to have won the individual championship and break the record. But this doesn’t end our season. We have to go to work and get ready for the regionals and then the nationals.”
