Jul 23, 2011 01:34 Board to vote on extension for Johnson Board to vote on extension for Johnson LSU's new men's basketball coach Trent Johnson addresses the media during a press conference Thursday April 10, 2008. Advocate Staff Report July 23, 2011 Comments A proposed one-year contract extension for LSU men’s basketball coach Trent Johnson has been endorsed by system President John Lombardi and is scheduled to be voted on at the Board of Supervisors meeting next month. The extension, which does not include a raise, was removed from the agenda for the board’s July meeting and sent back to the campus for further review. “President John Lombardi announced that the LSU System office has completed a review of the recommendation by the Athletic Director and Chancellor for an extension of Coach Trent Johnson’s contract for an additional year,” the LSU System said in a news release Friday. “The President has endorsed the recommendation, which will be placed on the August Board of Supervisors meeting agenda.” According to the release, consideration of the extension had been removed from the July agenda after Lombardi said it became clear the “normal consultative process for such renewals could not be completed in time for the board to take up the matter at the meeting.” Johnson, who is 49-49 in three seasons with the Tigers, has three years remaining on his contract. The proposed extension would mean his contract would expire on June 30, 2015. After leading LSU to a 27-8 record and the SEC Championship in his first season in 2008-09, Johnson received a new five-year contract and a raise in annual salary from $1.2 million to $1.5 million. The Tigers have gone 11-20 and 11-21 the past two seasons, finishing last in the SEC both times. The LSU Board is scheduled to meet Aug. 26.
