Tseng can clinch grand slam with win at U.S. Open

Former LSU women’s golfer Tessa Teachman, who finished third in her final start in college play in May at the NCAA Women’s Championships, tees off in the first round Thursday of the United States Women’s Open golf championship.

The event is being contested at Blackwolf Run in Kohler, Wis. ESPN2 will have coverage of the first two days from 3-7 p.m. CDT before NBC covers the final two rounds Saturday and Sunday.

Teachman, who graduated from LSU in May following her senior season, rallied in the sectional qualifying in Frisco, Texas, from a 3-over 75 in the opening round of the 36-hole qualifier with a 3-under 69 to tie for medalist honors at even-par 144.

She was tied with Gabriella Dominguez (73-71).

Teachman, who lives in Baton Rouge, shot a 72-hole total of 1-under 287 to finish third in her last college event and she has been a part of the LSU teams that have finished back-to-back in third place in the NCAA Championships, the best finishes ever for the LSU women’s golf team.

The National Golf Coaches Association named her an honorable mention All-American selection after a senior season in which she recorded the best stroke average of her career, 73.5, with three top fives and five top 10 finishes.

Teachman’s first round tee time is at 9:12 a.m. off the No. 10 tee.
