Tiger golfers take 4th in Central
PARRISH, Fla. — LSU senior golfer Tessa Teachman had the best finish of her LSU career Tuesday, finishing as the runnerup in the Central District Invitational at the River Wilderness Golf Club.
The seventh-ranked LSU women’s golf team finished fourth, three shots out of the championship won by TCU.
Teachman had her best rounds in the beginning and the end, opening the 36-hole Monday play with a 3-under 69 before falling back to even par with a 3-over 75 in the afternoon round.
But Tuesday, she came out firing, getting to 3-under on a couple of occasions before falling back to 1-under.
But she birdied her final hole in the shotgun play, the par-4 third hole for a 2-under round of 70.
Teachman was one of just two players to break par over the 54 holes.
Teachman, from Baton Rouge, finished at 2-under 214 (69-75-70), two shots behind wire-to-wire winner Chirpat Jao-Javanil of Oklahoma.
It was Teachman’s second top three of the year after finishing in a tie for third at the season-opening Cougar Classic.
LSU shot the best round of any team on the final day, 5-over 293, finishing at 21-over 885.
TCU finished on top at 18-over 882 (297-289-296), followed by Oklahoma at 19-over and Vanderbilt at 20-over. After LSU, it was host Michigan State at 23-over 887.
LSU’s Madelene Sagstrom and Lindsay Gahm both shot 2-over 74, while Jacqueline Hedwall was at 3-over 75 and Austin Ernst posted a 5-over 77.
Ernst finished in a tie for 16th at 6-over 222 (68-77-77), as did Sagstrom (74-74-74).
The Lady Tigers now prepare for the LSU Tiger Golf Classic to be held March 9-11, at the University Club.
Fourteen teams will take part in this year’s tournament at the University Club.

Track and field
LADY TIGERS UP TO NO. 2; TIGERS REMAIN NO. 4 IN TRACK POWER RANKINGS: The LSU women’s track and field team moved up one spot to No. 2, and the Tigers remained firm at No. 4 among the men’s teams in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Top 25 power rankings.
The teams kick off the championship season this weekend at the 2012 Southeastern Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Nutter Field House in Lexington, Ky.
The Lady Tigers will look to defend their SEC Indoor crown against a field that features four other ranked teams, including No. 4 Arkansas, No. 6 Florida, No. 8 Tennessee and No. 22 South Carolina.
The Lady Tigers claimed their league-leading 12th SEC Indoor team title all-time a season ago by the total of 135-118 over homestanding Arkansas at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark .
