Lady Tigers in fifth at event

PARRISH, Fla. — The seventh-ranked LSU women’s golf team found itself in fifth place — eight shots out of first — after the first two rounds of the Central District Invitational.

LSU senior Tessa Teachman and sophomore Austin Ernst had strong opening rounds that kept them in the top 10 going into Tuesday’s final round.

Teachman opened with a 3-under 69 and then posted a 75 in the afternoon to stand at even 144, in a tie for fourth, six shots out of the lead of Chirapat Jao-Javanil of Oklahoma, who had rounds of 68 and 70 for a 138 and a five-shot lead.

Ernst opened with a 68 and then came home with a 77 to stand at 145 ­— good enough for a tie for seventh in the field of 75.

LSU was tied for the team lead after the first round as both LSU and Oklahoma posted 3-over 291 in the morning round at the River Wilderness Golf Club.

Oklahoma leads at 8-over 584 (291-293), two shots better than TCU at 586 (297-289). Vanderbilt is third at 587, with Michigan State fourth directly at 589. LSU is at 592 (291-301).

Also for LSU, freshman Madelene Sagstrom had back-to-back rounds of 74 and is at 148, in a group tied for 19th place. Senior Jacqueline Hedwall had rounds of 80-75 and sophomore Lindsay Gahm posted rounds of 81-79.

The final round is set for a shotgun start at 7 a.m. CST.

Women’s tennis

LSU AT SAN DIEGO STATE: In San Diego, fresh off a come-from-behind victory over San Diego and its third straight win, LSU faces San Diego State (2-4) at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Aztec Tennis Center.

“San Diego State is a very solid team; they are always a nice program,” LSU coach Tony Minnis said. “We need to use the momentum we have right now to keep improving going forward.”

The all-time series is tied at 1-1. LSU won the last matchup, 6-1 in 2007.

Gymnastics

LSU REMAINS 13TH: LSU remained 13th in the GymInfo standings released Monday.

The Tigers improved their season average to a 195.575.

LSU (4-7) remained seventh on vault and 21st on bars, but the Tigers jumped up three spots to No. 17 on beam after scoring a 49.100 at Washington. LSU tied its season high on floor with a 49.150 at Washington, but the Tigers fell one spot to No. 12.

In the individual rankings, Rheagan Courville remained third nationally on vault with a 9.918 average and came in at No. 22 in the all-around standings with a 39.275 average after scoring a season-high 39.500 at Washington. Lloimincia Hall ranked 15th on floor with a 9.868 average.

LSU hosts No. 3 Alabama at 7 p.m. Friday in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
