Lady Tigers tennis wins at San Diego
SAN DIEGO — The LSU women’s tennis team (4-2) won its third consecutive match this season, this one 4-3 over San Diego (1-5) when Ebie Wilson won a third-set tiebreaker on the deciding court Sunday at the Hogan Tennis Center.
Olivia Howlett and Yvette Vlaar started things with an 8-1 win over Cara Brown and Idil Haciriafoglu.
Whitney Wolf and Keri Frankenberger battled back from a 3-5 deficit to clinch the doubles point and win their third consecutive match together 8-6 against Stephanie Hoffpauir and Juliette Coupez.
After the teams battled back and forth, Wilson outlasted Marite Raygoda 4-6, 7-5 (3) 7-6 (5) in a match filled with multiple long rallies as Wilson overcame an early minibreak in the final set tiebreaker to give LSU the match win.
The Lady Tigers take the court again at San Diego State at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Women’s golf
LSU BEGINS PLAY IN CENTRAL DISTRICT INVITATIONAL: The seventh-ranked LSU women’s golf team, fresh off its third win of the season on Tuesday in Puerto Rico, begins play Monday in the Central District Invitational at the River Wilderness Golf Course in Parrish, Fla.
The tournament is sponsored by Michigan State.
LSU posted 20-over par in Puerto Rico to defeat Georgia by two shots in the opener of the spring portion of the season. It gave LSU three wins in five starts this season.
Joining LSU and Michigan State in this year’s Invitational are Coastal Carolina, Indiana, Iowa State, Kent State, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Northwestern, Ohio State, Oklahoma, TCU, UCF and Vanderbilt.
LSU’s Austin Ernst shot even par 216 to finish in a tie for fifth place in the individual competition in Puerto Rico, while Tessa Teachman finished in 9th place at 5-over 221, Madelene Sagstrom was 12th at 7-over 223 and Lyndsey Gahm was 17th at 8-over 224.
Monday’s play will be 36 holes at 7 a.m. followed by a single round Tuesday.
