LSU in second at Isleworth

WINDERMERE, Fla. — Tiger freshman Stewart Jolly had four birdies and one bogey on his card for a career-low 3-under 69 Monday to help vault the LSU men’s golf team into second place after Monday’s second round at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational at Isleworth Golf & Country Club.

LSU senior Sang Yi and sophomore Andrew Presley both shot 1-over 73s, and sophomore Landon Lyons shot a 2-over 74, leading the Tigers to en route to a team score of 1-over 289 for the best round of the day to climb four spots.

With a 36-hole score of 8-over 584, LSU trails No. 1-ranked Texas by 10 strokes.

Tuesday’s final round tees off at 8:40 a.m.

Volleyball

PARDO NAMED SEC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK: LSU setter Malorie Pardo was named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive week Monday. Pardo had 13.38 assists per set to move into first place in the SEC. Her 47 assists matched an SEC season-high for a three-set match. She followed that with 60 assists and 14 digs in five sets against Ole Miss.

Track and field

LSU ALUMNI at PAN AMERICAN GAMES: Six alumni from the LSU track and field program are set to compete this week at the Pan American Games at the Telmex Athletics Stadium in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico.

Jumper Zedric Thomas, sprinter Kenyanna Wilson and long jumper Jeremy Hicks will compete for the United States.

Javelin thrower Laverne Eve will represent the Bahamas, 800-meter runner Jamaal James will compete for Trinidad & Tobago, and hurdler Isa Phillips will run for Jamaica.

Men’s basketball

TIGERS LSU PICKED NINTH IN SEC: For the first time since the 1991 basketball season, the voting members of the Southeastern Conference media preseason poll picked the league finish as one unit and not in Eastern and Western Divisions.

The league, which had been split into two six-team divisions since the last realignment when South Carolina and Arkansas joined the league prior to the 1991-92 season, will play as one 12-team league in 2012, with the top four teams receiving byes through the first round of the SEC Tournament, which will be held March 8-11 at the New Orleans Arena.

LSU was selected ninth. Kentucky was picked No. 1. Terrance Jones of Kentucky was the Player of the Year.
