Louisiana ties to the PGA Championship

Patrick Reed

Age: 24

PGA Championship appearances: First

Best finish: N/A

How qualified: Top 70 in PGA Tour earnings through 2014 Canadian Open (Currently 10th)

Tee times (CDT): 6:45 a.m. Thursday (No. 10), 11:55 a.m. Friday (No. 1)

The approach shot: A final-round 65 Sunday in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational vaulted Reed into a T4, his first top-10 since winning at Doral in March. It also moved him into a qualifying spot on the U.S. Ryder Cup team in seventh place, with the team to be selected next week. With such distractions matching recent momentum, can a contending run in Reed’s first PGA be in the offing?

David Toms

The former LSU golfer and 2001 PGA champion withdrew from this year’s championship Monday. The 47-year-old Shreveport resident cited a lingering back problem that also forced him to withdraw last week from the PGA Tour’s Barracuda Championship. Toms was replaced by first alternate Shawn Stefani.
