Newcomer Jay Jackson leads Zephyrs past Oklahoma City

Zephyrs 4, RedHawks 2

In Oklahoma City, Jay Jackson allowed an unearned run over 6.2 innings during his first Triple-A appearance of the season as the Zephyrs posted a road victory Saturday night.

Jackson (1-0), a 25-year-old right-hander promoted Saturday from Double-A Jacksonville, allowed five hits and two walks, striking out three. Chris Hatcher allowed a ninth-inning homer to Brandon Laird but still posted his 26th save.

New Orleans scored single runs in the third, seventh, eighth and ninth. Matt Downs’ triple scored Chris Gutierrez in the third to give the Zephyrs a 1-0 lead.

After Oklahoma City tied it in the fifth, Nick Green hit a solo homer, his fourth, in the seventh against reliever Hector Ambriz (0-1) to put the Zephyrs ahead for good. Jordan Brown added an RBI groundout in the eighth, and Kyle Skipworth’s fourth homer made it 4-1 in the ninth.

Asher Wojciechowski allowed one run in six innings for Oklahoma City. The teams conclude their five-game series — and the first half of the season — at 6:05 p.m. Sunday.
