NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Kyle Skipworth’s two-out double in the seventh inning broke a 4-4 tie as New Orleans defeated the Nashville Sounds 8-5 on Sunday. The win was the Zephyrs’ fourth in a row and improved their record to 36-35.
Both teams scored three runs in the first inning. The Z’s took the lead in the fourth on a Donovan Solano RBI single. Nashville answered in the sixth with a Stephen Parker RBI single.
In the seventh, Gil Velazquez drew a one-out walk, stole second and advanced to third on a groundout. Skipworth drilled a double to right-center to give the Z’s a 5-4 lead.
In the eighth, the Zephyrs added to their lead by scoring three runs on two hits. The Z’s took advantage of two walks and an error.
James Leverton earned the win for the Zephyrs. Johnny Lowe pitched four innings of relief for the Sounds and took the loss. Jonathan Albaladejo pitched the ninth and earned his third save.
