Zephyrs fall at Round Rock

ROUND ROCK, Texas — Round Rock shortstop Jurickson Profar drilled a grand slam in the seventh inning to cap a five-run inning to push the Express to a 7-1 come-from-behind win on Sunday at the Dell Diamond.

The Zephyrs’ lone run came on Ed Lucas’ solo home run, leading off the fourth inning, to give New Orleans a 1-0 lead. The Express tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on Joey Butler’s homer.

The homer by Butler was New Orleans starter Doug Mathis’ only hit allowed. He worked five innings in the no-decision.

The Express roughed up Zephyrs reliever Jordan Smith with five runs on five hits in the seventh inning. The Express sent nine batters to the plate and took the lead on a Eli Whiteside sacrifice fly. Smith takes the loss for the Zephyrs to even his record at 1-1, while the Express’ Neal Cotts earned the win in relief.

The Express improves to 11-7 on the season, with the Zephyrs dropping to 7-9.

GAME NOTES

The Zephyrs have played 40 consecutive innings of error- free baseball. The Z’s fall to 7-2 when scoring the games first run. New Orleans has scored 42 of its 57 runs this season after the fifth inning.
