LSU-E moves to 5-0
EUNICE — The LSU-Eunice baseball team worked extra to complete a three-game sweep of North Lake Community College by winning both games of a doubleheader, 7-5 in nine innings and then 6-5 in 14 innings Monday.
In the first game, former Parkview Baptist standout Brady Wilson (1-0) pitched five innings, allowing four hits and one unearned run with no walks and six strikeouts to earn the win, while Patrick Michon struck out two in a perfect ninth inning for his second save of the season.
Sam Carriere (2-for-5, run), Stuart Turner (2-for-4, two RBIs) and Adam Angelle (2-for-3, stolen base, two runs and one RBI) led the way at the plate.
In the second game, Dalton Herrington went 2-for-6 with two stolen bases, one run, one RBI and a double, while former Parkview Baptist standout Garrett Deshamp (RBI) and Buddy McCoy (run) had two hits each.
Reliever Marc Picciola went five innings, allowing five hits and two runs with two walks and two strikeouts, while Tyler Venable (1-0) pitched a scoreless 14th inning to pick up the win.
LSU-EUNICE 9, NORTH LAKE 7: In Eunice, former Parkview Baptist standout Will Bacon struck out seven to earn the win in 4.1 innings of relief.
Casey Rodrigue went 2-for-5 with a run; Herrington 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs, including his second home run of the season; and Carriere 2-for-4 with a double and a run.
UNO opens season
SOUTHERN ARKANSAS AT UNO: In New Orleans, the University of New Orleans begins the season with three games in two days, starting with a 1 p.m. doubleheader of seven-inning games against Southern Arkansas.
The Privateers host William Carey at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
UNO, which will be competing as a Division II school this season, will start right-hander Christian Cale and Jake Fabre, in that order, Tuesday and left-hander Stone Speer on Wednesday.
Cale is a sophomore who appeared in eight games last season at Northeast Mississippi Community College while Fabre went 9-1 at Delgado Community College last season. Speer also played at DCC.
SAU is ranked No. 22 in the NCAA Division II Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Preseason Coaches’ Poll and No. 12 in the College Baseball Lineup preseason rankings.
WCU (0-3) will play a doubleheader with Tougaloo on Tuesday.
