Brees in pads again but is still limited

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W. Va. — Saints quarterback Drew Brees was in pads for the start of the Saints’ final training camp practice at The Greenbrier resort in West Virginia on Wednesday; but he was not participating in a walkthrough and was mostly doing conditioning work, though he was throwing passes to receivers during an individual drill period.

Brees sustained an oblique injury Aug. 1. He wasn’t in full pads again until Tuesday, when he mostly did conditioning work and did not take part in drills. His throws Wednesday were more than he did Tuesday.

Not present at the beginning of the Saints’ final training camp practice at The Greenbrier resort in West Virginia on Wednesday were CB Patrick Robinson, CB Rod Sweeting, FB Erik Lorig, S Ty Zimmerman, LB David Hawthorne, RG Jahri Evans, LB Victor Butler and WR Kenny Stills.

Reasons have not been disclosed for most of those not present Wednesday. Stills tweaked a quad on July 25, the first practice at The Greenbrier; and Lorig hurt a leg at the intrasquad scrimmage Aug. 2.

In pads but not participating at the beginning of practice Wednesday were T Ty Nsekhe and TE Je’Ron Hamm, both reserves. Hamm suffered a stinger at the intrasquad scrimmage.

Lastly, veteran CB Champ Bailey was again in full pads Wednesday. Bailey, too, was in full gear Tuesday for the first time after missing several practices, the scrimmage at the preseason opener at St. Louis last week.
