WHO’S NUMBER ONE? With the season opener less than three weeks away, LSU coach Les Miles said there’s still no daylight showing between quarterbacks Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris. He will accept having to play both quarterbacks if he must, but Miles would prefer to see one or the other distinguish himself. 2. BUGA NATION REJOICES Leonard Fournette was an epicenter of attention at media day, the first chance reporters have had to interview the superstar recruit since he arrived at LSU. Fournette was candid and affable, admitting the collegiate learning curve has been bigger than he imagined — especially the blocking assignments. 3. TACKLING THE OPENING Miles described Frank Herron as the heir apparent at one of the Tigers’ defensive tackle spots to replace Quentin Thomas, who suffered a torn biceps last week. Miles spoke optimistically of Thomas potentially returning this season. Defensive coordinator John Chavis and D-line coach Brick Haley weren’t so quick to give Herron the nod. 4. SEEING RED Miles approaches his 10th season at LSU and still seems to love coaching as much as ever. “I really think our best football is in front of us,” he said. One thing he still hates: red. He counted seven red-shirted media members, plus one guy with a red rally stripe across his chest.
