LSU QB Rettig plans transfer LSU QB Rettig plans transfer Advocate staff photo by TRAVIS SPRADLING -- Quarterback Hayden Rettig (11) throws at LSU's annual Spring Game at Tiger Stadium, Saturday April 20, 2013 in Baton Rouge, La. Ross Dellenger| email@example.com June 16, 2014 Comments LSU freshman quarterback Hayden Rettig plans to transfer, the school confirmed Saturday. Rettig, a consensus four-star prospect from California, never played a down for the Tigers. He redshirted during his true freshman season last year. Rettig competed with Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris this spring for the starting quarterback job. Jennings and Harris were clearly the frontrunners. LSU’s quarterback depth has taken a hit this year with departures. Rettig is the second reserve quarterback to transfer from LSU this year, joining Stephen Rivers. Jennings and Harris are expected to compete for the starting job during fall camp, but their No. 3 now appears to be a walk-on. Brandon Bergeron, Brad Kragthorpe and Jake Clise make up that group. A native of Los Angeles, Rettig was tabbed the No. 12 pro-style quarterback recruit in the country and No. 20 player in California by 24/7. Rettig completed 1 of 2 pass attempts for 47 yards at April’s spring game. Follow Ross Dellenger on Twitter @DellengerAdv. For more coverage of LSU football, follow our Tiger Tracks blog.
