Southern University and the NCAA plan to issue a joint news release late Thursday afternoon, updating the Jaguars’ effort to have a post-season ban lifted for all of its athletic teams.
The announcement will provide more details about the situation, but will not include an answer as to whether the ban will be lifted.
The NCAA instituted the ban in early December when a routine review of student-athletes’ academic records revealed “unusable data.”
Southern has spent the last three months responding to NCAA requests for voluminous records.
The Jaguars men’s and women’s teams are currently ineligible for the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament, which begins March 11.
The men (13-2) have clinched at least a tie for first place and the women (13-2) are in second place, a half-game behind Texas Southern.
Both teams play at Alcorn State on Saturday.
