As a member of the Seattle SuperSonics, Sikma made the West All-Star team for seven straight years (1979-85):
My second year in the league (1978-79) was my first as an All-Star and also the year we won the championship after losing to Washington in the Finals the year before, so it was a great experience. When you’re 23 years old, it doesn’t get much better than that. I never got to start because I was behind Kareem (Abdul-Jabbar) and Moses (Malone), so I got some minutes some games and some I didn’t. We weren’t quite as much into showboating then as we are now, so they were always pretty good games. The game itself was a lot more physical than it is now. But it was always fun to be recognized like that.
