The Saints on Tuesday signed safety Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, a two-year NFL veteran, to a one-year contract and waived cornerback Ryan Steed.

Owusu-Ansah appeared in 14 career games with two starts with the Dallas Cowboys and Jacksonville Jaguars in 2011 after being selected by the Cowboys in the fourth round of the 2010 draft.

Owusu-Ansah, who has played in the secondary and wide receiver, also returned punts and kickoffs. He has 14 tackles on defense and five on special teams. He averaged 21.4 yards per kickoff return and 7.8 yards per punt return while splitting time with the Cowboys and Jaguars.

The 6-foot-1, 207-pound Owusu-Ansah went to training camp with the Cowboys last summer and then spent most of the season on the Oakland Raiders practice squad.
