It starts this week with the All-Metro softball meeting set for 6 p.m. Wednesday at Brusly High. Coaches will select teams for Class 5A-4A and 3A and below. Send softball nominations to Brusly coach Beau Bouvier at Beau.Bouvier@wbrschools.net. All-Metro meetings for baseball are for Tuesday, May 17, at 6 p.m. at separate sites. Coaches in Classes 3A and below will meet at The Dunham School, while coaches in 5A and 4A will meet at the Denham Springs High library. All-state nominations Baseball and softball coaches in the Baton Rouge area should submit all-state nominations for the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s all-state teams by Friday. Nominees must be first-team all-district performers. Coaches must provide the player’s name, position and full-season statistics with breakdowns on the regular season, district and playoffs, if possible. Jupiter won the 3A 100 hurdles (14.13 seconds), triple jump (36-4 1/2) and 300 hurdles (42.63) at Saturday’s Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 3A outdoor meet. Jupiter was one of two DHS girls to sign. Basketball player Patrice West signed with Southern University. Meanwhile, former Redemptorist and Southern Lab basketball player JR Harris signed with Iowa-based Indian Hills Community College last week. Harris spent the 2012-13 year rehabbing from a knee injury after helping SLHS advance to the Class 1A semifinals as a senior. He earned district MVP honors at Redemptorist. “JR is the exact type of player we’re looking for at Indian Hills,” Indian Hills coach Barret Perry said in a news release. “He is a long, talented player that can do many things with the ball at the offensive end and guard multiple positions at the defensive end.” Two more Baton Rouge area girls are scheduled to sign this week. Plaquemine High multi-sport athlete Amber Smith is set to sign a basketball scholarship with Baton Rouge Community College at 2 p.m. Monday at the school. St. Amant multi-sport athlete Destiny Bourgeois is scheduled to sign a track scholarship with Southeastern Louisiana University at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Gold Dome classroom at SAHS. Bourgeois finished fifth in the 5A triple jump at 36-11 in Saturday’s 5A meet. Job opening Zachary High seeks a head boys basketball coach for 2013-14. Teaching positions are flexible and applicants must be certified.
