University High, St. Michael the Archangel and Southern Lab were among the local girls basketball teams that advanced to the state quarterfinals in the regional round Thursday night.
In Class 2A, University rolled over East Beauregard 78-40 while St. Michael doubled up Northside 54-27 in Class 4A. Also, Southern Lab went on the road to upset Merryville 60-44.
UNIVERSITY 78, EAST BEAUREGARD 40: In DeRidder, Di’Mond Jackson had 20 points to lead four double-digit scorers as U-High tripped East Beauregard.
University (28-6) led 29-7 after one quarter and held a 42-15 lead at halftime en route to eliminating East Beauregard.
Alanie Foster had 16 points, while Mikayla Bates and Terriel Ross had 12 each to lead U-High, which hosts Doyle in the quarterfinals Monday night.
ST. MICHAEL 54, NORTHSIDE 27: In Lafayette, Journee Beard’s 18 points paced St. Michael, which came alive in the second half to run away from Northside.
St. Michael (31-4) led 16-12 at halftime, but outscored No. 18-seeded Northside 21-7 in the third period. Alexandra Gaudet added 11 points and Taylor Morrison had 10 for St. Michael, which will host DeRidder on Monday.
ALBANY 61, MARKSVILLE 37: In Marksville, top-seeded Albany overpowered 17th-seeded Marksville in the second half.
Danielle Keith scored 14 of her game-high 25 points in the third period and Shelby Stewart picked up six of her 14 points in the same quarter to help Albany (25-8) pull away.
Albany, which led 23-18 at halftime, outscored Marksville 23-7 in the third quarter to take a 46-25 edge into the final period. Shontera Williams led Marksville (16-15) with 15.
Albany will host Loyola of Shreveport in the quarterfinals on Monday.
SOUTHERN LAB 60, MERRYVILLE 44: In Merryville, Mayia Forbes poured in 20 points as No. 11-seeded Southern Lab roared past No. 6 Merryville to advance to the quarterfinals on Monday night.
Southern Lab (18-6) got 18 points from Donisha Young and 12 points from Jackie Bartley to claim the win.
Southern Lab will host third-seeded North Central on Monday night.
DENHAM SPRINGS 51, PINEVILLE 33: No. 5 seed Denham Springs earned a trip to West Monroe to face the fourth-seeded Lady Rebels in the quarterfinals by waxing Pineville at home.
Caletria Curtis and Carlisha Kinchen scored 15 and 12 points, respectively, for DSHS as it turned a 26-15 halftime lead into a runaway.
West Monroe edged No. 13 McKinley, 49-47, to set up the showdown with DSHS.
PONCHATOULA 53, SCOTLANDVILLE 44: Jyar Francis poured in 22 points as seventh-seeded Ponchatoula past 10 Scotlandville.
Airi Hamilton added 14 points for Ponchatoula, which plays at Natchitoches-Central on Monday night. Kr’Rian Wallace and Kenya Dixon scored 17 points each for Scotlandville.
SOUTHWOOD 72, ST. AMANT 26: In Shreveport, top-seeded Southwood raced to a 27-1 lead in the first period and went on to crush No. 16 St. Amant.
Kourtney Pennywell led Southwood (30-1) with 16 points, while Chelsea Tieuel (13) and Jessy Ellis (10) also scored in double figures. Katrina Ledoux’s 11 points led St. Amant (21-11).
ST. THOMAS MORE 69, CABRINI 43: Paige Hall fired in 37 points and Courtney Chain added 13 as fifth-seeded St. Thomas More coasted into the quarters.
