Tulane women fall in double overtime

NEW ORLEANS — Tulane’s Whitney Bibbins scored 20 points off the bench, but Houston’s Te’onna Campbell scored on a putback with 5.4 seconds left in double overtime to give her team a 71-70 victory Sunday in Devlin Fieldhouse.

Tulane (18-6, 7-4 Conference USA) led 38-26 at halftime and was ahead by 16 in the second half before Houston (11-13, 5-6) surged in front with a 20-0 run. Tulane then erased a 57-49 deficit to force overtime with the score tied at 60.

After each team managed five points in the first overtime, Bibbins (U High) had a three-point play with 1:43 left in double OT to put the Green Wave up 70-69 before Campbell connected for the winning points.

Campbell paced Houston with 17 points. Porsche Landry added 16, and Marche’ Anderson had 15.

Tulane visits UAB at 7 p.m. Thursday.
