With renovations at Lee-Hines Field ongoing, the Southern University baseball team’s opening weekend has been moved to Pete Goldsby Field, the university announced Wednesday.
Instead of playing on campus, Southern will play its three-game series against Stillman College of Tuscaloosa, Ala., at Golsby.
The season opener is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday. The final two games of the series Saturday and Sunday are each set for 1 p.m. starts.
Work on the infield at Lee-Hines Field began last month, and Southern coach Roger Cador was hopeful the $150,000 project would be finished in time for opening weekend.
After the series with Stillman, Southern will hit the road to face Nicholls State on Feb. 20, then head to Houston for the annual Urban Invitational the following weekend.
The Jaguars are not scheduled to play at home again until Loyola comes to town Feb. 26.
Pete Goldsby Field generally serves as the home of the Baton Rouge Community College baseball team, which is out of town this weekend.
