Three LSU players have been named to the Baseball America preseason All-America teams.
Junior second baseman JaCoby Jones was voted to the’s first-team squad, junior pitcher Ryan Eades is on the second team and junior catcher Ty Ross was named to the third team.
Jones, of Richton, Miss., is LSU’s starter at second base for the third straight year. He hit .253 last season with 13 doubles, one triple, four homers and 29 RBIs and led the Tigers with 11 steals. Jones was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week last May after pacing LSU to a series win at Ole Miss.
Eades, a right-hander from Slidell, enters his third straight season as a member of the Tigers’ starting rotation. He is 9-4 in two seasons with a 4.14 ERA and 94 strikeouts in 137 innings. Eades was the Cape Cod Pitcher of the Year in the summer of 2011 and was named SEC Pitcher of the Week in April 2012 after limiting Alabama to two hits in a 71⁄3 innings. Eades was also voted by the league coaches to the 2012 SEC All-Defensive team.
Ross, a native of Naples, Fla. is entering his third season as LSU’s starting catcher. He batted .292 in 2012 with six doubles, one triple, three homers and 41 RBIs. A member of the 2012 SEC Academic Honor Roll and the NCAA Regional All-Tournament team.
Ross threw out 16 runners attempting to steal last season.
