Team captain Jim Courier made the announcement Thursday at the draw ceremony. Isner has not played competitively since withdrawing from his opening-round match at the APIA International Sydney three weeks ago with a knee injury. Sam Querrey will play the No. 2 position. Mike and Bob Bryan will be the doubles team. The Brazilian team will consist of singles players Thomaz Bellucci and Thiago Alves and the doubles team of Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares. Querrey will play Bellucci in Friday’s opening match followed by the Isner-Alves match. The three-day event begins Friday at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena. Open GDF Suez FIFth seed Vinci loses to Barthel: In Paris, fifth-seeded Roberta Vinci was eliminated from the Open GDF Suez on Wednesday, losing to Mona Barthel of Germany 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 in the second round. Barthel will meet third-seeded Marion Bartoli in the quarterfinals after the Frenchwoman fought back from four set-points down to defeat American Christina McHale 7-5, 6-1. Second-seeded Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic also advanced to the quarters, beating Stefanie Voegele of Switzerland 7-6 (5), 6-3. Pattaya Open Morita knocks out top-seeded Ivanovic in Thailand: In Pattaya, Thailand, Ayumi Morita of Japan knocked top-seed Ana Ivanovic out of the Pattaya Open on Thursday, beating the Serb 6-3, 5-7, 6-3. After Wednesday was rained out, Morita completed her win over Ivanovic in a match suspended in the third set Tuesday. Morita returned later to beat Kimiko Date-Krumm 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 for a place in the quarterfinals. Defending champion Daniela Hantuchova retired from her match, while trailing Nina Bratchikova of Russia 6-2, 3-0 in the second round.
