BRONX, N.Y. — Fordham got career performances from Erin Rooney and Samantha Clark as the Rams defeated Southern 56-44 in the Rose Hill Gym on Monday night.
With the victory, Fordham moved to 6-4, while the Jaguars dropped to 0-8.
The Rams dictated the pace early, scoring the game’s first 10 points. Fordham nailed five out of its first six attempts from the floor, highlighted by six points from Clark.
Southern worked its way back into the game, outscoring Fordham 16-9 over the next 14 minutes, but the Rams regained closed the first half on a 6-0 run for a 26-16 lead.
Clark had 11 points and nine rebounds in the first half.
Southern, which was led by a 13-point, eight-rebound effort from Lechell Rush, chipped the Fordham lead to 33-31 on a Britney Washington 3-pointer with just under 13 minutes to go.
From there, Fordham got six points from Marah Strickland, including a four-point play, to highlight an 11-0 run that put the Rams up 44-31 with 10:14 left.
Rooney scored 16 of her career-high-tying 22 points in the second half. She also collected five rebounds with four assists and three steals.
Southern cut the lead to 48-39 on a Kendra Coleman jumper with 6:20 to play before Fordham went on an 8-0 run.
Coleman finished with 10 points for Southern.
