Red Stick Bowl selection meeting set for Wednesday

The player selection meeting for the 11th annual U.S. Army Red Stick Bowl all-star game will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at The Claiborne Building located at 1201 N. Third Street in downtown Baton Rouge.

Head coaches from throughout the Baton Rouge area are encouraged to participate in the process. Nearly 900 of the top student/athletes in the Baton Rouge area have played in the all-star game so far.

The game is set for 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 15 at Denham Springs High. St. Amant’s David Oliver will serve as head coach for the Black Knights, while Port Allen’s Guy Blanchard will coach the Rough Riders.

All-district teams due

The deadline to submit all-district volleyball and football teams to The Advocate is closing. Volleyball teams should be submitted by Nov. 20. All-district football teams are due Nov. 26.

advocate.com. Coaches are reminded to follow the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s guidelines for all-district teams found in the latest Louisiana High School Athletic Association directory and in the media section of the LHSAA website at lhsaa.org.

All-state nominations

Head football coaches are reminded to submit their nominations for the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s all-state teams also by Nov. 26. Players nominated must be first-team all-district selections.

Coaches are asked to provide the player’s name, school, grade, height, weight, position and season statistics. Regular-season stats are a must. Coaches can also provide statistics for district play and through the playoffs.

Tourney schedules needed

Basketball coaches are reminded to submit their basketball tournament schedules at least a week in advance of when the tournament begins. This will give our staff time to process the information before publications.

Metro meetings set

Selection meetings for Baton Rouge’s All-Metro cross country and volleyball teams will be Nov. 28 at different sites.

Coaches will meet to select boys and girls cross country teams at 4 p.m. in the Episcopal coaches office. The large schools and small schools volleyball teams will be picked at a 6 p.m. meeting at Team Sportsplex located on Perkins Rd. adjacent to BREC’s Olympia Stadium.
