UL-Monroe cruises to 35-14 win over FAU
MONROE — Kolton Browning tossed a pair of touchdown passes and Monterrell Washington ran for two more, as Louisiana-Monroe rolled to a 35-14 win over Florida Atlantic in Sun Belt Conference action Saturday night.
The Warhawks (4-2, 2-0) jumped on the scoreboard first when Browning completed a 3-yard score to Brent Leonard. Washington followed that up with a 36-yard touchdown run, and then Mitchell Bailey scooped up a muffed punt attempt in the end zone to stretch the advantage to 21-0 at halftime.
Browning later added a 9-yard touchdown pass to Harley Scioneaux, and Washington added a 3-yard rushing score.
Louisiana-Monroe held FAU (1-4, 0-3) to 1.2 yards per carry and outgained the Owls 195-46 on the ground with no runner accounting for more than 60 yards.
The win makes Louisiana-Monroe one of three remaining undefeated teams in the Sun Belt.
Graham Wilbert was 26-of-39 passing for 261 yards for the Owls.
ULM coach Todd Berry said Florida Atlantic did some new things that caught his team off balance early.
“Obviously a little disjointed, but Florida Atlantic gets a lot of the credit,” Berry said. They (the Owls) changed their entire defensive approach, like we were expecting them too. They kept rolling through enough things that we had a difficult time getting a hand on it. At halftime, we made some good adjustments.”
“We got to play cleaner. We missed some deep throws, we missed some opportunities. We got some good things out of tonight, though. Guys getting a chance to play and getting ready for this next one.
