A closer look at Southern University football for August 9, 2012
COMING UP
The Jaguars are scheduled to hold their first two-a-day practices of fall camp Thursday, with a 9-11:30 a.m. workout in helmets before a 3:30-5:30 p.m. practice in full gear. Both will be on the practice field adjacent to A.W. Mumford Stadium and are open to the public.
NUMBER TO KNOW
6The number of players who worked out at kick returner for Southern on Wednesday: Virgil Williams, Lee Doss, Jordan Bilbo, Willie Quinn, Terrance Clayton and Mike Jones. Williams and Charles Hawkins are the likely starters, but Quinn, a freshman, has been a camp star, and Jones and Clayton bring track speed to the group.
WORTH REPEATING
“It’s mostly about pad leverage. We have to see these guys coming off with a flat back, running to the line of scrimmage, and they have to be physical. That’s what it’s all about.”
— Southern coach Stump Mitchell
