Saints release Champ Bailey

The Saints made a splash this offseason by adding Jairus Byrd and Champ Bailey to their secondary.

Byrd has lived up to his billing and appears ready to solidify the New Orleans secondary. Bailey, meanwhile, leaves town after only having logged a handful of snaps during the preseason.

The Saints parted ways with the 12-time Pro Bowler Saturday afternoon as part of the effort to get down to 53 players. The move was first reported by NFL Network.

Signed to an incentive laden two-year deal this offseason with a $500,000 signing bonus, Bailey suffered a foot injury early in training camp and logged 37 snaps over the final two preseason games.

The 36-year-old Bailey was initially projected to start opposite Keenan Lewis, but Patrick Robinson pieced together a strong offseason and claimed that role.
