Wide receiver Andy Tanner, safety Ty Zimmerman and tackle Ty Nsekhe were all let go, the Saints announced. Guard/tackle Manase Foketi was told he’d be waived, a source confirmed to The Advocate. Tight end Travis Beckum on Monday night sent out a message on Twitter that he had been released. The Saints began trimming their 90-man roster last week by waiving wide receiver Tobais Palmer, running back Timothy Flanders, tight end Je’Ron Hamm and outside linebacker Chidera Uzo-Diribe. That means they had 81 players on their roster Monday night. Nsekhe sat out all three exhibitions so far this preseason, which were all Saints wins. Tanner (eight offensive snaps against Tennessee) and Zimmerman (29 defensive snaps at St. Louis) each missed two, including this Saturday's at Indianapolis. Those three had missed practices recently. Foketi played a total of 21 offensive snaps at St. Louis and against Tennessee. Beckum did not play in either exhibition for which he was on the Saints. Tanner was on and off the Saints' practice squad from 2010 to 2013. He made the 53-man roster the Saints took into Week 1 last year but was inactive when the team played Atlanta in the season opener and was then waived. He had no catches this preseason. Nsekhe had been with the Saints since January. He had previously spent time with Indianapolis and St. Louis, for whom he was active in two games. Zimmerman was an undrafted rookie out of Kansas State. He had five tackles (three solo). Beckum tweeted, “Short stay with the Saints. Still a blessing to have that opportunity, now even more excited about my next one. God is great!” The 2009 third-round draft pick caught seven passes for 45 yards in the 2011 playoffs for the Giants, who won the Super Bowl that season. He tore an ACL in the title game and hasn’t played in the NFL since. He signed with the Saints on Aug. 13. Foketi signed with the Saints in May. He spent part of 2013 on Buffalo’s practice squad. The Saints will play their preseason finale at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome against Baltimore on Thursday night. They'll have until 3 p.m. Saturday to get their roster down to 53 players.
