State troopers still searching for SUV in July 4 hit-and-run in WBR

State Police are still searching for the white SUV that on July 4 hit and injured a 7-year-old Brusly boy riding his bicycle on River Road, north of La. 989-1 in West Baton Rouge.

Trooper 1st Class Jared Sandifer said despite the mountain of tips and leads they have received, investigators are still looking for the vehicle, believed to be either a mid-90s Chevrolet Tahoe or GMC Yukon. They are not looking for a Chevrolet Suburban, Sandifer said.

The incident occurred at 1:30 p.m. in Brusly. The SUV hit the child cycling north on the River Road southbound lane and kept on driving.

A witness told troopers she saw the white SUV hit the boy.

The child sustained minor injuries and was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was not wearing a helmet.

Troopers accessed surveillance footage from a house down the block from where the hit-and-run happened that showed the white SUV with a dangling side mirror stop in the middle of the street right after the hit-and-run occurred.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Troop A at (225) 754-8500 or their local law enforcement agency.
