Welding training Baton Rouge Community College’s Westside campus in Plaquemine is offering an American Welding Society training program from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays beginning Sept. 14. Scavenger hunt The West Baton Rouge Museum will host a family night of fun with a scavenger hunt and movie night at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 13. The event will feature a showing of the movie “National Treasure” starring Nicolas Cage. The event is free and open to the public. Eyeglasses recycling The Brusly Lions Club and Keep West Baton Rouge Beautiful are teaming up to collect used eyeglasses and then send them to the Harahan Lions Home for cleaning and classification before they are repackaged and shipped to Louisiana residents who cannot afford new eyeglasses. To donate used eyeglasses, just bring them to one of the following locations: Daniel’s Pharmacy, Noah’s Pharmacy, Steven’s Pharmacy, Bourg’s Drug Store, Dr. Higgins’ office, Dr. Padgett’s office, the West Baton Rouge Library, the West Baton Rouge Parish Council Administration Building, the West Baton Rouge Council on Aging, Wal-Mart Eye Center and the Westside YMCA in Addis. Tailgating fair The West Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce is selling tickets for its “Tailgating Taste Fair” scheduled for 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 11, at the Port Allen Community Center. The chamber will award first-, second- and third-place honors for the best-decorated table, and a people’s choice award will be given for the event’s best dish. Tickets are $15 per person. Tourism Office fundraiser The Pointe Coupee Parish Office of Tourism has kicked off a second fundraising campaign to help generate revenue to build, or buy, a new parish visitor’s center. The Tourism Office is raffling off a one-of-a-kind poster by artist Dewey Reed at $2 per ticket. The raffle drawing will be held Dec. 16. The Tourism Office is also hosting a Fried Fish Dinner fundraiser which will take place Oct. 12. Dinner tickets will be pre-sold for that fundraiser as well.
