JARREAU — State Police arrested a Jarreau man after he crashed a stolen vehicle into a Pointe Coupee deputy sheriff’s patrol vehicle while allegedly trying to evade capture on several criminal counts.
Trooper 1st Class Jared L. Sandifer said the crash occurred around 9:45 p.m. Thursday along La. 413, just north of La. 414.
Travis J. Jarreau, 28, 5298 John Smith Lane, took off in a stolen car when deputies had attempted to detain him in connection with a domestic abuse investigation, Sandifer said.
The Sheriff’s Office had obtained a warrant accusing Jarreau of domestic abuse battery, simple criminal damage to property, false imprisonment, theft of a motor vehicle and unauthorized use of a movable, Sandifer said.
With deputies in pursuit, Jarreau swerved into the opposite lane of La. 413 and intentionally collided head-on with an oncoming sheriff’s patrol vehicle, Sandifer said, causing minor injuries to the deputy driving the vehicle.
State troopers called to the scene of the wreck arrested Jarreau after they smelled alcohol on his breath and booked him into the Pointe Coupee Parish Jail with third-offense driving while intoxicated, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and driving with a suspended license.
