Free smoke detectors
The Plaquemine Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal’s Office are offering free smoke detectors — and free installation of the detectors — to all city residents through the “Save a Life” program.
Plaquemine residents can go to any of the three Plaquemine fire stations and complete a brief application to obtain a free smoke detector. There are no income, age or other restrictions required.
Once applications are submitted, the Fire Department will notify those residents who will be receiving smoke detectors and will schedule installation of the detectors.
