U.S. Sen. David Vitter will host a town hall meeting in Iberville Parish at 3 p.m. Thursday in the council chambers of the parish’s government building, 58050 Meriam St., Plaquemine.

Vitter is set to discuss his efforts “to bring Louisiana common sense to Washington,” reforming federal spending and economic development.

The town hall meeting is free and open to the public.

Jambalaya benefit

A jambalaya benefit dinner is being held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the Port Allen Community Center Pavilion to raise funds for 5-year-old cancer patient Azalee Carroll.

Jambalaya plates are $6 each.

Wine tasting

The Pointe Coupee Parish Chamber of Commerce invites the business community and chamber members to its complimentary wine- and beer-tasting event scheduled for 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at The Landing Bar underneath Satterfield’s in New Roads.

Triathlon registration

Registration for the Oxbow Triathlon will close at noon Wednesday. The Pointe Coupee Parish sporting event consists of a half-mile swim in False River, an 18-mile bicycle race, and a 3.1-mile run.

Relay for life

The American Cancer Society’s annual Relay for Life of West Baton Rouge festival-style fundraiser will start at 5 p.m. Friday and finish at 5 a.m. Saturday at the Brusly High School football field and track. The event’s opening ceremony and special tribute to all cancer survivors will begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

This year’s event will feature Louisiana cuisine and activities such as an obstacle course — provided by Play Dirty Adventure Trail Run — horseback rides, inflatables and live music by Gary Bello and Friends Band.

Keep West Baton Rouge Beautiful thanked Dow Chemical for its sponsorship and support of the 4th annual Household Hazardous Materials Collection Day in West Baton Rouge Parish on March 9.

During the event, more than 300 tires were collected along with 1.06 tons of electronics, 944 pounds of batteries, 400 gallons of oil, 30 gallons on anti-freeze and tons of other hazardous waste.

All waste materials were disposed of properly.

Anniversary celebration

The West Baton Rouge Historical Association and West Baton Rouge Museum will join in celebrating 45 years of service to the community at 2 p.m. Sunday at the West Baton Rouge Museum.

Current and past board members will be recognized and highlights of the past 45 years will be noted. The recently published book “History of West Baton Rouge Parish: People, Places, Progress” will be on sale.
