The West Baton Rouge Convention and Visitors Bureau is gearing up for its annual “Reflections of the Season” holiday extravaganza that kicks off Dec. 1 and lasts until Christmas Eve.

The holiday light display on the grounds of the West Baton Rouge Tourist Information and Conference Center will be open from 5:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays.

Fridays and Saturdays, attendees may enjoy outdoor activities at the center such as wagon rides, ice fishing and a snow patch.

Inside the tourism center, there will be crafters, entertainment, special food vendors offering holiday delicacies and, of course, Santa Claus and his elves.

Flappers to housewives

The West Baton Rouge Museum invites the public to attend its lunchtime lecture, “From 1920s Flappers to 1950s Housewife: Women of the Greatest Generation,” at noon Thursday.

History scholar Ashley Baggett is scheduled to deliver a lecture complementing the museum’s new exhibit, “Our Stories, Our Lives: America’s Greatest Generation.”

Bayou history

The Plaquemine Lock State Historic Site is asking the public to attend its special program detailing the history of Bayou Plaquemine, from 1812 to 2012, Friday and Saturday at its facility, 57730 Main St., Plaquemine.

The Bayou Plaquemine display will be available for viewing at the historic site between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday.

Special programs on Bayou Plaquemine history dating back 200 years are scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday. These will offer displays and commentary on the cypress logging industry, people and vessels using the bayou, industries lining the bayou’s banks and the many commodities traveling on the bayou.
