Abbeville man killed in Pointe Coupee wreck
Two vehicles collided Wednesday afternoon on La. 1 in Pointe Coupee Parish, killing one of the drivers, State Police reported.
Trooper 1st Class Russell Graham said in a news release that Jason Weill, 34, of Abbeville, was driving north on La. 1 near the Morganza Spillway in his 2009 Toyota Yaris when he lost control of his vehicle after passing another vehicle.
While Weill attempted to regain control, a Ford F-350 traveling south collided with Weill’s vehicle, Graham said. Weill was pronounced dead on the scene by the Pointe Coupee Parish Coroner’s Office, Graham said.
Larry Robillard, 58, of Glynn, the driver of the Ford truck, sustained minor injuries and did not have any detectable amount of alcohol in his system, Graham said.
Graham said troopers sent a sample of Weill’s blood to the State Police Crime Laboratory to test for alcohol.
Both drivers were using their seat belts at the time of the wreck, Graham said.
