Keep West Baton Rouge Beautiful has started a parishwide battery collection program to promote battery recycling.
Rechargeable batteries and A, B, C and D batteries can be dropped off for recycling at Addis Hardware, Port Allen Hardware & Supplies, West Side Lumber Co., West Baton Rouge Parish Library, and Po-Folks Fruit & Vegetables. Deposit batteries in the marked battery collection boxes at each location.
Old batteries are considered hazardous waste and should not be placed in household trash cans, officials said.

Softball, 5K Run/Walk
Nell’s Angels will host the 12th annual Coed Softball Tournament and 5K Run/Walk Fundraiser on Saturday at Fordoche Ball Park in Fordoche.
Fun Run registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the ball park.
The Fun Run will begin and end at the ball park, where other festivities will take place.
Individuals or teams may enter the softball tournament.
Cost is $30 per person, which includes a free lunch and $5 worth of drink tickets for each participant. All proceeds benefit cancer patients in Pointe Coupee Parish.

Runners and teams are encouraged to wear pink or dress up in their best angel costume.
Bingo and Wings
Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Hall is hosting “Bingo Friday” on Aug. 3 at the church hall, 11140 La. 77 in Maringouin.
Wings and hot dogs will go on sale at 5:30 p.m. and bingo games, offering cash prizes, will kick off at 7 p.m.

Scouts and steamboats
In honor of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Girl Scouts, the West Baton Rouge Museum has a display of local Girl Scout artifacts including uniforms, photographs, books, awards, crafts and badges.
Groups can make reservations for a special program to visit with re-enactor Linda Collins who performs as Juliette G. Low, founder of the Girls Scouts of America.

The exhibit will run from Aug. 4 to Oct. 5.
Beginning Aug. 11, the museum’s “200 Years of Steamboats on the Mighty Mississippi” exhibit will begin.
The exhibit features images of historic riverboats by Henry Norman during the last decades of the 19th century.
The exhibit will last until Oct. 28.
Bass fishing
The “Casting for a Cure Bass Fishing Tournament 2012 & Auction” will take place on Aug. 25 at Morrison Parkway in New Roads.
The tournament is an annual fundraiser for cancer research.
The tournament will take place from 6 a.m. until 1 p.m. The auction is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
