Authorities closed the east-bound exit ramp of Interstate 10 at La. 415 in West Baton Rouge Parish Monday after the bed of an 18-wheeler hauling hydrochloric acid collapsed, according to Port Allen Fire Chief Rick Boudreaux.
Boudreaux said structural failure on the truck caused it to “break in half” as the driver was turning onto La. 415 in front of Love’s Truck Stop around 9:42 a.m. Monday. The Port Allen Fire Department, along with the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, the state Department of Environmental Quality, State Police and Hazardous Material and Explosives Control Unit responded to the incident.
Boudreaux said no one was injured and none of the truck’s hazardous material leaked out.
Authorities had to shut down a portion of La. 415 and the nearby eastbound exit ramp of Interstate 10 around 11 a.m. so crews could transfer the truck’s cargo.
to another 18-wheeler.
