WBR shooting leaves man dead
PORT ALLEN — A shooting late Saturday left a man dead outside a West Baton Rouge Parish gas station, a West Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s spokesman said Sunday.
Etan K. Irving, 28, 3314 Lukeville Lane, was shot outside the Racetrac on La. 1 South, near Phillips Lane in Port Allen, Col. Richie Johnson said.
Deputies arrested Carl L. Richardson, 23, 1434 Freeman Lane, in the killing and booked him into Parish Prison on a count of second-degree murder, Johnson said.
Video inside the gas station showed Richardson was inside the Racetrac near midnight, reaching inside a cooler, Johnson said.
When he shut the door, Irving was standing there and started punching Richardson, Johnson said.
When Richardson got to his vehicle outside the store, he pulled a revolver and shot Irving in the torso, killing him, Johnson said.
Detectives don’t know yet why Irving attacked Richardson inside the store, and detectives are investigating what happened when the two men got outside the Racetrac, John said.
“We’re working on getting clear video of the outside,” Johnson said.
A West Baton Rouge Parish grand jury on Friday indicted Richardson’s 22-year-old brother, Marcus Richardson, on a count of second-degree murder in another shooting.
Marcus Richardson is accused of killing Justin Warner, an 18-year-old Brusly High School student, on May 13.
That shooting occurred at the La. 1 Exxon Truck Plaza parking lot, just across from the Racetrac station, Johnson said.
Whether the two shootings are related is unclear, Johnson said.
“We don’t know that there is a connection, other than they’re siblings,” Johnson said of the Richardson brothers.
