I-10 trafic stop nets cocaine, one arrest

Iberville Parish sheriff deputies arrested a Houston man Thursday and booked him into Parish Jail with possession of more than 33 pounds of cocaine.

Sheriff Brent Allain said the department’s Interstate Criminal Enforcement Division was conducting a traffic stop Thursday near the corporate limits of Grosse Tete along Interstate 10 when they pulled over Christopher B. Wade, 41, for speeding.

Deputies searched the suspect’s 2011 Chevrolet Cobalt after they noticed Wade acting suspiciously during the traffic stop, Allain said.

Allain said deputies then asked Wade for permission to search his vehicle.

The deputies found 15 packages, each with a kilogram, or 2.2 pounds, of cocaine, which has an estimated street value of $1.5 million, Allain said.

Wade was booked with speeding and possession with intent to distribute cocaine in excess of 400 grams.

He was in jail Monday and bail had not yet been set, authorities said.
