One killed in Addis shooting

Addis police investigated a fatal shooting Saturday afternoon on Main Street after an apparent domestic dispute, Police Chief Ricky Anderson said. The slaying was the first in Addis since 2010, Anderson said.

Police were called around 3 p.m. to 4122 Main St., near the corner of Fourth and Main and a block from the Addis Police Department headquarters, Anderson said.

Cruz Ramirez, who lives at 4122 Main St., was in custody following the incident, Anderson said. Ramirez was living with the mother of Clarence Jones, who was shot and killed.

Jones and Ramirez were arguing on the front porch when Ramirez grabbed a gun inside the house and shot Jones, Anderson said.

Jones, whose age and address were not available, managed to walk to a neighbor’s house about 60 yards away before he died, Anderson said. No one else was injured, Anderson said.

Police were ready to charge into the house to capture Ramirez, but he surrendered shortly before officers were about to break in, Anderson said.

Police recovered a bullet in the front yard of the house that appeared to have been fired from an AK-47 rifle found in the home’s attic, Anderson said.

Port Allen Police, Brusly Police, the West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office and Louisiana State Police were helping in the investigation, Anderson said.
