Flags to be flown at half staff in memory of the 9-11 attacks

Gov. Bobby Jindal ordered all flags over state buildings flown at half-staff Wednesday in respect for those who lost their lives in the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks in suburban Washington, D.C., rural Shanksville, Pa., and New York City, according to a statement released by his press office.

Jindal issued an executive order calling for half-staff flags from sunrise to sunset.

Wednesday is the 12th anniversary of the coordinated attacks in which planes crashed into the Pentagon, into a Pennsylvania field, and into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in lower Manhattan Island.

Nearly 3,000 people died in the attacks.
